Metro High School Indoor Field Hockey Championship 2023 (Host Citadel High School)
Lockview High School defeated Armbrae Academy 6-5 to take home this year’s Metro Championship Banner for High School Girls Field Hockey. Scoring for Lockview was Julie Adamson and Liv Suska with 2 goals each and Reese Mason and Jada Tilford with 1 goal apiece. Armbrae’s 5 goals came from League MVP & Nancy Tokaryk Scholarship Winner Sophie Pomeroy. Lockview reached the final defeating Citadel 14-7 in the semi final. While Armbrae reached the final by defeating Halifax West 5-4 in the other semi final. Nancy Tokaryk Scholarship Winner 2023 – Sophie Pomeroy/ Armbrae Academy This scholarship of $1000 is for a player in the Metro High School league that is continuing on to play field hockey at the University Level that excels in athletics, academics, leadership and volunteer/community service. Sophie Pomeroy is a Captain of the Armbrae Academy team and has played field hockey for the past 6 years at both the Junior & Senior High School levels. Sophie has received League All-star Status 3 years, Rookie of the League Honours 2018 and is the 2022 and 2023 recipient of the High School League MVP Award. Sophie has been a member of the Field Hockey Nova Scotia Provincial U18Team for the past 6 years. Sophie is an extremely good athlete representing Nova Scotia in ice hockey at the 2023 Canada Games and Team Canada in the sport of Floor Ball. Sophie volunteers as a prefect at school and volunteers at summer camps. Sophie is a tutor and helps with the morning/afternoon young student program at Armbrae. Sophie also coaches hockey at the club level. Sophie has been accepted into the Science Degree Program at Guelph University in Ontario and will be playing field hockey for the Guelph Gryphons in the fall.
